In my last post here you read about how and why I came up with Sass + Babe’s 3 in 1 fitted sheet. In this post I’ll tell you more about the actual sheet. But firstly I wanted to say how grateful I am for all the support all of you gorgeous people have shown so far. I really am humbled by it and completely and utterly chuffed. So thank you so much. x
So, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted in Sass + Babe’s fitted sheet as soon as the idea came to me. Why? Because I knew all the things I did and didn’t like about the bedding I had been using with my boys for the past 6 years. So with that and some research I was able to figure out exactly what I wanted. Finding the right manufacturer took time (a lot of time). I had strong ideas on how I wanted the sheet made and what I wanted the sheet made of. There were a number of manufacturers I tried before I finally found the one who ticked all the boxes. I have formed a fantastic relationship with this manufacturer and I’m really thrilled with the high quality product we have been able to create together. They have always gone over and above for me and I have really appreciated it and the expertise they have brought to my sheet.
Sass + Babe’s fitted sheet is made up of 3 layers. The bottom layer is a waterproofing layer. The magical middle layer is quilted bamboo fiber and lastly, a soft jersey cotton layer for the top sheet. The jersey cotton layer is what you’re precious little bumble bee sleeps on all night…. ALL night… If I say it enough maybe it will actually happen.
So why these 3 distinct layers?
The waterproofing layer
I knew I didn’t want a plasticy/kids party table cloth type fabric to make up my waterproofing layer. It’s uncomfortable, noisy, hot and starts to crack and flake away after washes. You all know the type, it’s horrible stuff. This is why I chose a soft, NON plastic feel fabric for my waterproof layer. It’s fantastic and is actually really waterproof. It’s not like those other not so plasticy waterproof sheets you can buy (that I bought) that don’t really waterproof that well and leave you having to drag your child’s mattress outside to get some sun; I’ll assume we’ve all done it?! It’s also more environmentally friendly to make and is actually biodegradable, unlike most other waterproofing sheets out there. Sass + Babes 3 in 1 fitted sheet actually does waterproof!
The magical middle layer of quilted bamboo
I chose bamboo fiber because I wanted my middle layer to be soft and comfortable, with a bit of thickness but not too much bulk. I wanted it to take away that springy feeling you can sometimes get from kids mattresses. The bamboo fiber has been quilted in a soft cotton case so it doesn’t move around within the sheet. This ensures it will last and last, wash after wash. Bamboo is really durable, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, hypoallergenic (so if the apple of your eye has sensitive skin this is going to suit them just fine). It’s odor neutralising (yay!), breathable and is powerfully thermo regulating. This means it adapts to your babe’s body temperature keeping your sleeping beauty warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It’s also incredibly absorbent. This is a massive stand out trait to have during those fun bed wetting/training years. The bamboo helps to draw moisture away from the surface of the sheet. This gives your babe’s doona a fighting chance of not getting wet as well. Is there anything more frustrating than a wet doona? I think not. The bamboo layer also adds to the waterproofing of this sheet. You can feel confident knowing that your mattress won’t get wet when using Sass + Babe’s 3 in 1 fitted sheet. Our babes (hopefully) spend a lot of hours sleeping in their beds so nothing but the best will do for our little peaches. So when I say our bamboo layer is the magical element. It really is.
The soft jersey cotton layer
I chose jersey cotton for the top layer for a couple of reasons. It’s soft and super comfortable, it’s the nice comfy t-shirt material we know and love. The jersey cotton we use for our sheets is a special kind that won’t stretch out of shape over time. Because Sass + Babe’s 3 in 1 fitted sheet is made from jersey cotton, it’s suitable for both warmer and cooler months. This means it can be used all year round, saving you money on not having to buy both summer and winter sheets. It also means you can go ahead and claim some of your linen cupboard space back! I know!!! I can hear your linen cupboards cheering from here. I didn’t completely love the colour I originally chose, (which is in these photos) and I’m waiting for the sample with the new colour to arrive. I’ve chosen a grey that is said to blend into the background and goes with all colours. This means it will suit the colour scheme in any nursery or bedroom. I also chose this specific grey for it’s apparent calming effects, and when it comes to bath and bedtime I’ll take any help I can get, thank you very much.
So there you have it, that’s a bit of a breakdown of Sass + Babe’s 3 in fitted sheet. To top this beauty off, it also comes in a swanky jersey cotton drawstring bag.
